The Basics
The Down Low
Chelsea is from a tiny town in Oklahoma with less than 12,000 people, where she was raised by her mom, Chi. The pair went through a lot together growing up, including a fire in high school that destroyed their house, including Chelsea's basketball trophies. (Gatorade sent her a new Player of the Year award to replace the one she lost.)
Chi was by Chelsea's side when she was drafted fifth in the WNBA draft. Also by her side was Mike Neighbors, head coach at Arkansas where she played in college. Chelsea is adored by Arkansas fans: She actively sought out the role of a leader on the team and then proceeded to excel at it.
In addition to being a leader on the court, Chelsea is just super fun to watch. This article describes her as "dynamic, impetuous, [and] rambunctious." That aggressiveness has paid off, as she averaged over 20 points her senior season.
Finally, in case you need it, here's Chelsea drinking champagne on a boat with some other WNBA stars.
